Bedroom Reading Nook with Decorative Mirrors

September 3, 2015 by Judy 3 Comments

Do you have an empty corner in your bedroom and need to fill it up?  I did, so I turned my empty corner into a Bedroom Reading Nook with Decorative Mirrors. It’s been quite a while since I wrote a budget friendly decorating post so it’s about time. After all, we moved AGAIN, which means I got to decorate all over again.  To me, that’s one of the best things about moving so frequently!

Bedroom CornerToday, I’m showing you a corner in my apartment’s master bedroom. I needed something to fill up some empty space and a chair does that perfectly. How nice to have a peaceful reading space in the bedroom, right?  I guess it would be if I liked to read a lot, which I don’t.  Who am I fooling…it’s basically a prettier clothes hanger than an exercise bike (I’m sure some of you know what I’m talking about). Let’s just pretend there’s never any clothes piled on that chair, okay?

Since I’m typically a neutral person with my decorating choices, I thought it was a good opportunity to add a pop of color. I purchased a yellow chair from Overstock.com and swapped out the boring plain yellow pillow that came with it for a more decorative one from Target.  I found a cute little round table from Ross which was the perfect size for the chair. While I love the chair and the style, it’s a small scale chair. That would have been okay, except I have large nightstands and a tall bed which dwarf it.

Oops!  See what I mean…

Master Bedroom Corner with Chair & MirrorsOh well, I don’t mind, besides at the rate we move around, I’ll be redecorating in another year anyways! If you’re shopping for furniture and that sort of thing bugs you then be sure to take out your tape measure before ordering/buying something to make sure it fits the space the way you want it to.

What I really wanted to talk about today are those MIRRORS!

I spruced up this bedroom reading nook with decorative mirrors. Have you seen all the trendy, funky mirrors at the stores lately?  You can spend a lot of money on them at fancier stores or a less at the discount stores, just depends on your budget. I vote for less! Take a quick stroll through your local Marshals, Ross, TJ Maxx, Target or Homegoods and you’ll see plenty of the budget friendly ones.  I think they add such fun interest and can fill up a big space on the wall.  I searched high and low for some really cool abstract art for that wall but just never seemed to find what I wanted in the colors I needed.  So I decided to go the mirror route and I’m so happy I did.  I’m loving that wall!

The secret to a successful collage arrangement is to vary the shapes and sizes of what you’re hanging, then arrange them in a pleasing, balanced manner.

Decorative mirrors on wallI also think what makes this arrangement work is the different colors as well. I used silver mirrors, gold tone mirrors and a pewter looking one.  For this arrangement I bought 3 larger mirrors that were sold individually and 2 different boxes of a set of three (the three small silver ones and the 3 small gold tone ones).   The entire arrangement on this wall cost me around $85.  That’s a lot of bang for your buck!

Here’s the breakdown of what I spent:

Yellow Chair  – $250.99 (I used a 12% off coupon so I paid a little less)

Decorative pillow  – $24.99 (you can find less expensive pillows at a place like Ross)

Side Table  – $29.99

Box of 3 small silver mirrors  – $9.99

Box of 3 asst. gold tone mirrors – $24.99

Grey larger mirror – $12.99

Gold tone mirror – $12.99

Gold tone starburst mirror  – $24.99

Total spent: $391.92 (+ tax)

I think that’s fairly budget friendly, don’t you?  Let me know what you think of this Bedroom Reading Nook with Decorative Mirrors.  And if you have a suggestion for that blank space between the corner and the lamp I’d love to hear it.  Maybe some sort of art or continue with a few mirrors to look like it wraps around the corner… hummm???  I can’t decide! I’ll report back when I find something.

Turn an empty corner in your bedroom (or living room) into a designer looking reading nook for not a lot of money. Budget friendly. Decorative mirrors add lots of style!

Love it! You’ve done a great job with the colors and the mirrors, Judy. And yes, I know what you’re talking about, we have two pretty hangers in our bedroom. 😉
