My friend Susan has begged me to post a recipe for a drink with tequila. Apparently she gets really fabulous when she drinks tequila. And since she’s an avid reader of this blog and a huge fan I felt eager to oblige. But what to make with tequila besides a margarita??? I’ve always loved grapefruit juice with vodka, especially a grapefruit martini or a grapefruit St-Germain martini, so I thought it was about time to make a Paloma Cocktail. This one’s for you Susan…go be fabulous!
The traditional Paloma is a tequila based cocktail with grapefruit soda (Fresca or Squirt) and a lime wedge. I like to use fresh squeezed grapefruit juice in my cocktails so that’s what I used with this one. Combine the grapefruit juice with some good white tequila, lime juice, sugar or simple syrup, and a splash of club soda for a little fizz and you’ve got yourself a tasty Paloma Cocktail. I love a little splash of Cointreau (or Grand Marnier) in my margaritas so I added a splash to this drink too. Yummy! Yummy! Yummy! You don’t have to add it if you don’t want to though.
So simple and so refreshing. The Paloma Cocktail is a perfect summertime drink. The only thing that would make it more perfect is sipping on this drink by the beach, listening to waves crashing…and maybe munching on some chips and guacamole. Cheers!
