I love Mojitos, especially in the summer when all the fantastic fresh summer fruits are available. The flavor possibilities are abundant. Mojitos are such a refreshing, summery kind of drink. This recipe for a Strawberry Mojito might not be anything new to those who enjoy mojitos but I thought I’d post about it anyways, just to get you thinking about adding seasonal fruit to your mojitos.
The first time I made this Strawberry Mojito I muddled the strawberries, mint and lime in a cocktail shaker with a spoonful of sugar. It was yummy but I wanted a stronger, little bit sweeter, strawberry flavor and not a bunch of strawberry mush getting stuck in my straw when I took a sip. Don’t you hate that? I feel like a kid blowing a spit wad through the straw to clear it out! To solve that problem I decided to make a strawberry simple syrup to use instead. You could even make it a strawberry mint simple syrup if you want. Then you would have nothing to clog your straw! I didn’t add the mint this time around because I wanted some of the syrup for another use later. Think of all the possibilities for mojitos this summer! Peach, nectarine, blueberry, watermelon, cherry, melon…. See the possibilities are endless. In fact if you really think outside the box you might want to make a Cranberry Pomegranate Mojito at Thanksgiving this year!Print
- 1 shot rum
- 1 shot strawberry simple syrup
- 6–8 mint leaves
- 1 wedge lime
- 1 strawberry, if desired
- club soda
- In cocktail shaker add mint, lime and extra strawberry (if desired). Muddle together. I like to add a little bit of crushed ice while muddling. Fill shaker with more ice, add rum and strawberry simple syrup. Shake well, Pour into tall glass. Top with club soda.
