The Big Move: New York City

12/13/2013 by Judy 5 Comments

Big changes happening around here since October. To get caught up, my husband retired from the Navy after 34 years, got a new job, we got rid of most of our furniture and “stuff”, put the rest in storage, took a little vacation to California, and moved to New York City!  Quite a change, but an exciting time in our lives right now. I have to admit, I really hoped we would be moving West.  Somewhere warm, with palm trees, fish tacos, and an ocean view (hello San Diego).  I never thought we’d be moving to NYC.

It’s a little deja vu moment…you see, just a little over 27 years ago, I picked up and moved to NYC from Los Angeles for a job.  I met Mark the week before I moved while on vacation in Hawaii (he lived in DC) and we started dating shortly after I got here. I only lived in NY for less than a year back then since we got married and moved on to his next duty station.  Now it seems a bit surreal to be back in NYC with Mark, where it all began for us back in 1986. So with all that being said, I’m guessing this blog might take on a little more “Do Something” and a little less “Cook Something” at least until I figure it all out here.

Until the end of January we’re living in a tiny apartment a block off Central Park, and even though it does have a decent kitchen, I haven’t come across a grocery store nearby…yet. Darn, I guess we will just have to eat out for a while.   But don’t worry, I’ll still do my Wednesday Hump Day Happy Hour posts…there’s always room in a tiny apartment to make a cocktail! And, so you guys can have a good laugh, and I think every blog post should have a picture…here’s my view from my living room…I guess this is typical NYC! 🙂 Apartment View

Is there still a Whole Foods at Columbus Circle? Not sure how close that is. I hope you enjoy the City. I’m a little jealous, 60 miles away in rural northwest NJ!

Yes, I found out there is one there! It’s close, we’re at 58th and 6th. Now I’ll just have to remember to only buy what I can carry! I’ve also learned there’s a delivery service, Fresh Direct, so I’m going to have to give that a try too.

Sorry to admit, but your picture did give me a chuckle.
Have fun exploring the area. Hope you find a place you can call your own soon!

Thanks for stopping by! I just checked out your blog… beautiful pictures. I was a vegetarian for 6 years, quite a while ago. I will be back to check out more of your recipes, they look delicious!
