Egg Nog Martini

It’s Day 5 of 12 Days of Christmas Cocktails. Today I’m serving up an Egg Nog Martini.  I mean, really, what’s the holidays without a little egg nog?

Egg Nog Martini

I really thought this would be a slam dunk kind of recipe.  Mix equal amounts of store-bought egg nog with some booze, shake,  strain and good to go.  And yes, it’s easy to do that. I tried it with spiced rum, plain vodka, and brandy.  They were all really good. But I wanted something just a bit different.  So then I tried making it with some vodka and Frangelico.  But that was too nutty.   Next I tried replacing the Frangelico with some Italian almond liqueur and that was much better.  Hummmm, what would vanilla vodka taste like with it?  I just had to know.  So I tried the almond liqueur with vanilla vodka instead of plain vodka.  Oh yum.  That was even better!

At least at this point I thought it was, but who knows? I was starting to get a little buzzed.  Whoops!

Egg Nog Martini IngredientsSo there it was, what I thought was the best Egg Nog Martini recipe that I came up with. Vanilla vodka, egg nog, almond liqueur.  But I was on a roll now and couldn’t stop…what else was in my cupboards that might be good?  I saw my stash of Torani flavored sauces.  Chocolate? Nah. Caramel? Yes, that could be nice.  So of course I had to mix up one with the caramel syrup.  Yes, it was good!  But…hold on. There was also a bottle of Pumpkin Pie syrup. Okay, one more try!  Liked this one the best!  I’m guessing the brand of egg nog you purchase has something to do with the overall taste, so I’m sure you’d like any one of my experiments.

Egg Nog MartiniGo out and buy yourself a carton of your favorite egg nog before they’re all gone and shake it up with some booze.  I think you’ll enjoy an Egg Nog Martini to put you in the holiday spirit.  And when you’re drinking it, think of me and all my hard work experimenting in the kitchen.  Tough job but somebody has to do it.  Your welcome!  Oh, and just so you know…I didn’t actually drink all the drinks! Just a couple tastes of each one, otherwise I’d be sloshed by now.  But what a waste when the rest goes down the drain!  Where’s my friend Joyce when I need her?

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 shot vanilla vodka
  • 1 shot egg nog
  • 1/2 shot almond liqueur
  • 1 tsp. Pumpkin Pie flavored sauce (I used Torani, but you can make homemade, here’s a recipe)
  • Opt: cinnamon wafer cookie for garnish or crushed for rimming glass

Instructions

  1. If you want to rim the glass, dip the rim in some of the Pumpkin Pie syrup, then in crushed cinnamon wafer cookie (or just combine a little bit of brown sugar and cinnamon on a plate and use that instead of the cookie)
  2. In cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine vodka, egg nog, almond liqueur and pumpkin pie sauce. Shake well and strain into martini glass.

Notes

If you can’t find Torani Pumpkin Pie sauce and you don’t want to make homemade, go ahead and use any caramel syrup, it’s good too!
