Looking to jazz up a can of boring baked beans? These BBQ Baked Beans just may be the ticket you’re looking for!
There’s some really good canned baked beans out there in the market. However, sometimes it’s nice to take a simple can of baked beans to the next level This is one of those times. I made this delicious batch of baked beans yesterday for the Super Bowl earlier in the day and reheated them for game time. They’re a thicker bean dish (especially after sitting for a while) so if you prefer a “looser” batch I’d suggest just adding a little bit of water to the finished dish, or when reheating, to achieve your desired consistency.
PrintBBQ Baked Beans
Ingredients
- 5 strips thick cut bacon
- 1 small onion, diced
- 3 – 15oz. cans pork & beans*
- 1/2 C. BBQ sauce
- 1/4 C. apple cider vinegar
- 1 Tbls. yellow mustard
- 1 Tbls. brown sugar
- 2 tsp. BBQ seasoning (I used Penzys)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees
- In large cast iron skillet or dutch oven, cook bacon until it starts to crisp (don’t overcook, it will cook more in the oven). Remove bacon from pan and drain on paper towels, set aside.
- Add chopped onion to bacon drippings and cook over medium heat until softened.
- Add remaining ingredients to pan and stir to combine. Dice reserved bacon and arrange on top.
- Bake, uncovered about 1.5 hours until liquid is reduced and it’s thick and bubbly.
Notes
*Don’t need any fancy, expensive can of baked beans, just use regular ol’ pork & beans since you will be doctoring them up with this recipe.
