Vegan Buttermilk Waffles



For the Buttermilk:

1  1/2 C. plant based milk*

1 Tbls.. apple cider vinegar (could use lemon juice)

Dry Ingredients:

2 C. flour (I used all purpose flour)

1 Tbls.  baking powder

1/2 tsp.  salt

Wet Ingredients:

1/4 C. melted vegan butter (can use oil)

1 Tbls. maple syrup (or sweetener of choice)

1/2 tsp. vanilla


  1. To make the “buttermilk” combine milk and apple cider vinegar in small bowl and set aside for a few minutes to thicken.
  2. In large bowl, sift together the dry ingredients.
  3. Combine wet ingredients with buttermilk.  Add to dry ingredients. Gently mix the batter to combine but don’t overmix.
  4. Cook waffles according to your waffle maker’s instructions.



*I like to heat the milk up a bit in the microwave to bring it to room temperature first.
