Watermelon Mint Martini

by Judy

Jump to Recipe·Print Recipe

This Watermelon Mint Martini was the very first cocktail I posted on the blog two years ago.  The picture was…ummm…horrible!  I made them again over the weekend so I decided it was time to update the photo.  Now they look just as delicious as they taste!

Watermelon Mint Martini with fresh watermelon juice, vodka, triple sec and limeHere’s the original post.  Warning: not the best writing in the world!

Since I have leftover watermelon from my watermelon gazpacho, and because it is a Saturday night after all, I thought I’d make a Watermelon Mint Martini.  This took a few tries before I came up with something I really wanted to drink.  I first tried making a watermelon martini that included some Domaine de Canton ginger liqueur, mint, lemongrass, watermelon puree and vodka.  Ick. Mark and I agreed it wasn’t that tasty.  So then I tried again leaving out the lemon grass.  Still blah.  So I added a bit of triple sec which made it better but not worthy to be a “Judy Drink”.  Finally, I left out the ginger liqueur altogether, added lime and voila, a drink I would actually drink!

Kind of painful reading that huh?

Watermelon Mint MartiniI sure did waste a lot of good booze and watermelon trying to come up with a watermelon martini.  Not sure why, since looking back at the recipe now it seems like just a basic fruit martini.  I must have been trying too hard to make something unique!  Sometimes simple really is better.

Give this Watermelon Mint Martini a try this summer.  I guarantee you’ll like it!  And for a couple more fantastic watermelon cocktails try a Watermelon Moscow Mule or a Watermelon Margarita.  Cheers!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 parts Watermelon puree (just blend some seedless watermelon cubes in a blender)*
  • 2 parts Absolute Citron vodka (you could use regular vodka if you like)
  • 1 part Triple Sec
  • 6 large Mint leaves
  • 1/4 Lime

Instructions

  1. Muddle mint and lime with a little bit of ice in a cocktail shaker. Add puree, vodka, triple sec and more ice and shake well. Strain and serve in chilled martini glass. Garnish with lime, mint sprig and/or a piece of watermelon.

Notes

*I strained my puree through a mess strainer so it wan’t too “pulpy”
